Fjállsárlón, located close to the Ring Road, barely 10 km from the Diamond Beach and 370 km from Reykjavik, is a breathtakingly-beautiful glacier lake at the south end of the Vatnajökull. It lies close to Fjallsjökull, an outlet glacier of Vatnajökull and about 10 km to the east is Jökulsárlón, while Skaftafell Nature Reserve is situated 47 km to its west.

Some refer to Fjallsárlón, which is about five times smaller than Jökulsárlón as the tinier version of Jökulsárlón, due to the many similarities, besides the fact that they are located next to each other. Just like its popular neighbor, Fjallsárlón offers a splendid view all around, specially of the majestic and towering Öræfajökull, considered Iceland’s biggest volcano with highest peak, in the background. Enjoying boating facilities in this lagoon can be an amazing experience, seeing so many small and big icebergs floating around. However, Fjállsárlón’s small size also enables visitors to have a closer look at the ice cap.
The stunning region is a nesting site for various seabirds, including puffins and skuas, which are said to be the rarest predatory birds in the world. The lagoon also has a healthy seal population. Fjállsárlón is located close to several other places of tourist interest, including Jökulsárlón, Skaftafell Nature Reserve, Diamond Beach, Svartifoss, Heinabergslon etc. The lagoon has added a new service center and a cafe recently to facilitate tourist comfort.
