Flúðir village, in Hrunamannahreppur municipality in the south, about 100 kms from Reykjavik, has become all the more popular thanks to its proximity to some of Iceland’s most popular destinations – Geysir and Gullfoss – (Golden Circle tour). Tourism was further propelled in this region, during the past decade, when family-owned businesses were revived, as is the case with the Secret Lagoon. Other well-traversed places of interest include Skálholt Cathedral, Bruarhlod Bridges, Samansafnið – History Museum and Gallery, Selsvöllur golf course, Hrunalaug hot springs and geysers etc.

Flúðir is one of few villages in Iceland that are not by the coastline. In the area are a big production of mushrooms and a lot of green houses. Surrounded by farms this is an agricultural area. In the village are a supermarket, nice hotel and very good camping area.
The most known tourist attraction in the area is The Secret lagoon or Gamla laugin in Icelandic. The oldest swimming pool in the country, the natural swimming pool which is now one of the big attractions for tourists.
