Hveravellir Nature Reserve, often described as the hidden oasis of Iceland with several hot springs, is a geothermal field and central volcano that is 650 meters above sea level, situated under a huge ice sheet to the east of Erikskökull.
A popular tourist attraction, it is a must-visit place for those who love open outdoor adventures and is part of the Oddnýjarhnjúkur-Langjökull subglacial volcanic system in the north of Langjokull glacier in the central highlands.
The oldest mention of this amazing location, with numerous hot springs, fumaroles and hot mud, dates back to 1752 by two Icelandic Icelandic explorers and naturalists in their travel journals. Most tourists do not leave Hveravellir, which is declared a natural monument, without a dip in its warm and refreshing waters, where a dam was built on the stream in 1950.
