Reykjadalur, which literally translates to ‘a valley of smoke’ is very popular among tourists and locals alike for various reasons. Nestled close to Hveragerði town, in the south of Iceland, the region is an acclaimed geothermal area where people enjoy a rejuvenating dip in the warm waters of the hot spring thermal river and traverse along the beautiful hiking trails.
Of course, the town of Hveragerði town too is known all over the world for its innumerable hot springs. The region, with winding paths, offers contrastingly beautiful sights both during the summer and the winter, which, besides the hot springs, also offers a view of rising steam at various spots, besides bubbling springs. Close to the hiking trails near Drottningarhola borehole is a waterfall, where the area is exceptionally beautiful with the earth covered in various hues of red, yellow and green and blues and a very good spot for photography.
Visitors can choose the place of their liking and enjoy the hot springs free of charge, but are warned against walking off the marked trails into the vegetation and asked not to litter, as the trail is subject to closure if the conditions are not met. Trails have been closed in the past due to these reasons. The proximity to the Ring Road also provides Reykjadalur its popularity among tourists who are keen on enjoying the warm waters, which many claim also has therapeutic qualities.
