Black volcanic sand beach that stretches from the mountains in the east to Reykjanes peninsula.
Reynisfjara, also called “The black sand beach” is one of the iconic sights and very popular among tourists.
The black sand beach that stretches kilometers in both directions, the basalt cliffs of Reynisfjall, the waves hammering the shore, Reynisdrangar stacks 66 meter high basalt rock formations in the sea just outside the shore, the sea birds flying over are all participating in making this place one of the most memorable.
Strolling along the black sand beach, a view to Dyrholaey or to Eyjafjallajökull before sitting in the restaurant “The black sand beach” to enjoy some refreshments.
The next country or continent to the south from Reynisfjara is Antarctica. There is only the Atlantic ocean. Outside the shore are very strong currents and rip currents, if a person falls in the sea it is most likely to be fatal. Therefore guests are urged to be careful and not go too close to the waves.
