Inhabitants are around 9000, which is fairly big in Iceland. Surrounded by the biggest agricultural area in Iceland, the south lowland, it serves the farms and the food production taking place in various areas like Reykholt, Flúðir and more.
The most voluminous river in Iceland, Ölfusá, runs through the town. Ölfusá is formed by two rivers, Sogið and Hvítá, only few kilometers away.
In Selfoss are everything a small town needs, supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, schools, etc.
