Iceland provides umpteen fascinating locations that are unique and amazing, Valahnúkamöl is one of them. This interesting location, known as the ‘beach of boulders’, has stones and boulders large and small strewn all over the beach.
Located towards the south west region of Reykjanes peninsula, 69 km from Reykjavik near Gunnuhver mud-pool, Valahnúkamöl is a beautiful 420-metre-long beach, which is about 80 metres wide and 10 metres high, with stones as small as 30 cm in diameter and boulders as large as nearly 100 cm in diameter. Interestingly, most of the rocks seem to be rounded and would instantly remind you of some troll movies. The stones are said to have been created by the elements over centuries, including pounding waves, strong storms, and surf. Nearby are the Valahnúkamöl Cliffs which add to the visual delight. The view towards the ocean too is beautiful, with jagged rock pillars standing tall amidst the battering by the sea and winds.
However, being open to the Atlantic Ocean the sand less beach may be cold and uncomfortable, specially when it is very windy. The Reykjanes peninsula region offers some of the amazing places of tourist interest including Grindavik, Blue Lagoon, Bridge between Continents, Seltun, Kleifarvatn, Gunnuhver, Reykjanesviti, Brimketill etc.
